1) The definition of government is:

political direction and control exercised over the actions of the members, citizens, or inhabitants of communities, societies, and states; direction of the affairs of a state, community, etc.

2) The word government relates to Jefferson's presidency because he changed the amount of people in the government. The first thing he wanted to do as president was to reduce the number of people in government. He did not want the federal government to get involved in economic affairs. Another way it realtes to Jefferson's presidency is that during the war, the government had control over the US army. A final way that government connects to Jefferson's presidency is that the government did not have control over Jefferson when his bought the Louisiana purchase.

I chose this picture to represent my word because George Washington was the 1st President of the United States. He was the 1st person to have governmental power in the US. I also chose this picture because of his hair. His hair was the 1st type of hair in power. A few of the Presidents after Washington also had his type of hair.

4) A book that I have read that relates to the word government is part of The Clique series. It is titled: The Pretty Committee Strikes Back by Lisi Harrison. This book is about how The Pretty Committee goes on a class trip to Lake Placid. While there, the five main characters, Massie, Alicia, Kristen, Dylan, and Claire run off into the woods. The school's government takes control and expels the girls from their school, Octavian Country Day. This book relates to Jefferson because the school government took control of the girls, just like Jefferson did with his people/country.

5) "Jefferson's first goal as President was to limit the federal government's power over states and citizens." (311) I think this is the best sentence that describes Jefferson's reign as President in the US government. I like this sentence because it shows people what he is all about and shows that he is a powerful man who knows what is best for his country.
